Presented by Sue McGregor and John Underwood, this film by Richard Nicolle illustrates the infinite care and love demonstrated by the National Trust for the great houses in their charge. We see the highly skilled and patient labour necessary to preserve the interiors of some of the Trust's 200 houses.

The film provides a fascinating insight into the conservation work carried out by the Trust - visiting a variety of houses and specialist workshops where highly skilled teams of experts can be seen lovingly restoring fabrics, books, illustrations, paintings, statues and wallpaper. The conservation programme is endless and combines the techniques of modern science with traditional methods of "housekeeping", established over the centuries by the people who lived and worked in the great houses in centuries past. The film pays tribute to the large body of dedicated experts who restore and maintain some of the greatest treasures of our nation.

Houses featured are: Blickling Hall; Kingston Lacey; Petworth; Stourhead; Calke Abbey; Lanhydrock; Powis; Knole.
