Traditional Japanese unarmed combat. Jujutsu was originally devised to show Samurai who had been disarmed on the battle field how best to continue fighting and protect themselves. This video shows the traditional fighting techniques of a respected Jujutsu school - Ryoi Shinto Ryu - featuring a well known teacher, James Shortt, and his pupils.

The video commences with a fighting sequence and the rest of the programme examines many techniques and shows how they are done.

A brief illustrated history shows how Jujutsu developed and spread to the West. Also included are traditional methods of dealing with old style weapons attacks.
