All the programmes included in this series are specially compiled from both public and private archive footage, providing an evocative and unique overview of the Golden Age of Steam.

The first programme in the series features mainline and branch line activities of London and the South and contains footage from the early 30's including:

• Mainline Steam in the 30's.
• Quaint 6 wheel coaches being pulled by little tank engines through the byways of Kent.
• 'A4' Sleek Express locomotives fill up with water at London Marylebone Station during Wartime.
• A study of branch lines in the 50's featuring Tenterden, Gravesend and Maidstone West.
• The last day of steam on the Alexandra Palace line.
• A feature on Clapham Junction in the 60's where we see a wide range of locomotives.
• Hawkhurst in Kent is closed and a great crowd gathers to say farewell to the little trains that travel through the hop fields.
• At Marylebone the last "Black Fives" take out the last express to Nottingham during the 60's.
• A study of Steam trains on the Isle of Wight in the 60's.
• A feature on working steam at a Kent quarry, where tank locos toil up and down the slopes with battered wagons.
• A study of steam on London Transport and a grand finale in 1971.
• Steam returns to Marylebone in 1985 and a series of famous engines make their comeback.

Essential programming for any steam enthusiast.
