Food critic and author John Guerrasio guides viewers on an excursion through the heartland of Tuscany, exploring the cuisine, wine, crafts and heritage of Northern Italy. Follow Guerassio on this journey through one of Italy's most beautiful regions and one of the world's most popular tourist destinations.

In addition to the tourist meccas of Florence and Sienna, he visits many small towns in between.

Guerrasio drives through the Chianti region, savouring the beautiful countryside, the celebrated vineyards and the small towns like Greve and Panzano. He samples the Chianti wines and food - including wild boar - visits a fresco painter in Radda and stops in the city of Arezzo to view Piero della Francesca's famous fresco, "The Legend of the True Cross".

Leaving Chianti, John moves into southern Tuscany, a region marked by rolling hills and trees, the vineyards of Montepulciano and Montalcino, and the landscapes of the sulphurous springs and castle-shaped outcrops.

Guerrasio savors the sights of Siena: the scalloped-shaped piazza called the Campo, the Zebra-striped cathedral and the vertigo-inducing tower. He catches the excitement of the patio, the famous bareback horse race around the Campo.

This programme is a delight to all those who love the food, wine and culture of Italy.
